# Telegram

> Create a Telegram bot, connect it with its token, and let the AI agent answer the private chats people open with it.

Connect a Telegram bot so the AI agent and your team answer the private chats people start with it.

## Create the bot

### 1. Open @BotFather
In Telegram, start a chat with **@BotFather**.

### 2. Send /newbot
Send `/newbot` and choose a name and a username for your bot.

### 3. Copy the token
BotFather replies with the bot token, a text like `123456789:AA...`. Copy all of it, including the digits before the colon.

## Connect the bot

### 1. Open Telegram in Komplian
Open **AI Agent → Channels → Telegram**.

### 2. Paste the token
Paste it in **Bot token** and connect. Komplian sets up the rest.

### 3. Try it
Write to your bot on Telegram. The chat arrives in [Smart Inbox](https://docs.komplian.com/inbox/conversations) and the agent answers.

Komplian stores the token encrypted and only receives the messages people send to this bot.

## Check the connection

The integration page shows one of these lines:

| Line | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| "Telegram is delivering messages to Komplian." | Everything works. |
| "Telegram is not delivering to Komplian right now" | Delivery fails. The line gives the reason. |
| "This bot is delivering somewhere else." | Another service took the bot. Reconnect it to point it back at Komplian. |

## Choose what the agent does

The **AI Skills** of the Telegram page:

| Switch | Default | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Automatic replies** | On | The agent answers new messages to the bot. Off: your team answers every Telegram conversation. |
| **Read conversation history** | On | The agent reads the earlier messages of the chat before answering. |

## Limits

| Chats | Private chats with the bot only. Groups are not supported. |
| Who you can write to | Only people who wrote to the bot first. |
| Reply window | None. |
| What the agent understands | Text, images and files. |
| Channel limit | Telegram counts as 1 channel of your plan. |
