# Import and duplicates

> Import people and companies from a CSV file, then find and merge duplicates so each person has one record.

Where: Contacts → People → Import
Who: Owners, admins and members import. Owners and admins merge records and undo merges.

Import brings your people or companies from a CSV file. Duplicates are records that may be the same person: Komplian points them out and you decide whether to merge them.

## Import a CSV

### 1. Open the importer
In **Contacts → People** or **Contacts → Companies**, press **Import**. You can also use **Options → Import CSV**.

### 2. Choose the file
Drop a CSV or press **Choose file**. Komplian shows how many rows it found. Files exported from Komplian, HubSpot or Salesforce are recognised automatically.

### 3. Match the columns
Under **Columns**, pick the Komplian field for each **File column**, or **Ignore** it. Match one column to **Name**. For people, you can match two instead, to **First name** and **Last name**.

### 4. Check the preview
The **Preview** counts the rows that are new, that **will update existing records**, that are **repeated in the file** and that are **without a name**.

### 5. Import
Press **Import N rows**. At the end, **Import finished** shows how many were created, how many were merged into existing records and which rows could not be imported, with the reason.

## Fields you can import

| People | Companies |
| --- | --- |
| Name, First name, Last name | Name |
| Email, Phone | Domain |
| Company | Owner |
| Job title, City | Employees, Annual revenue |
| LinkedIn, X | Address, LinkedIn |

A column you do not match stays out of Komplian.

## How rows are matched

- A person with the same email or phone as an existing person updates that record. No copy is created.
- The company named on a person's row is reused if it exists, or created.
- A row without a name is not imported.

If the import stops before the end, Komplian says how many rows were not looked at. Run the import again with those rows.

## Find duplicates

Komplian points out possible duplicates in two places:

| Where | What you see |
| --- | --- |
| A person's record | A banner: **This could be the same person as "X"**. Press **Review**. |
| **Options → Possible duplicates (N)** in People | Every pair that may be the same person. Shown only when there are some. |

## Merge two people

### 1. Pick the two records
Press **Review** on the banner, or select exactly two people in the list and press **Merge**.

### 2. Decide
In **Is this the same person?**, press **Yes, merge them**. Press **No, different people** if they are not: Komplian will not ask again for that pair.

### 3. Check the result
One record stays. The other one's conversations, emails, tasks, notes and activity move into it.

If one of the two cannot be merged yet, Komplian says so and nothing changes.

## Undo a merge

Press **Undo** right after merging, or later from the record's **Timeline**. The merge is reversed.

## Rules

| Rule | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| What you can import | People and companies. Not opportunities or tasks. |
| Format | CSV |
| Email and phone | Two people can never share an email or a phone. Komplian points you to the existing one. |
